The framework

The ASCEND Method

A six-stage system, not a workout plan.

  1. A

    Assess

Comprehensive movement, lifestyle, and pain-history assessment.

  2. S

    Stabilise

Restore safe, pain-reduced movement and a reliable foundation.

  3. C

    Condition

    Progressive, periodised strength and conditioning.

  4. E

    Elevate

Sport-specific performance — HYROX, golf, running.

  5. N

    Nurture

Recovery, mobility, and hormone-aware longevity care.

  6. D

    Direct

Ongoing coaching, data tracking, and course-correction.

The six stages

What each stage actually involves.

The stages run in order, and they overlap. Nobody is moved forward because a calendar says so.

  1. A

    Assess

Every engagement opens with a structured movement assessment: joint by joint range, load tolerance, breathing mechanics, pain history and the demands of your week.

Nothing is programmed until the limiting factor is identified. The assessment gives us a baseline we can return to and measure against, rather than a general impression.

  2. S

    Stabilise

Before capacity can be added, movement has to be reliable. This stage restores control at the joints that are doing too little and reduces the load on those doing too much.

For clients arriving with pain, this is usually where symptoms begin to settle — not through rest, but through better distribution of work.

  3. C

    Condition

With a dependable foundation in place, we build strength and conditioning in periodised blocks, progressing load, volume and complexity at a rate your tissue can absorb.

Progress is tracked session by session, so adjustments are made on evidence rather than on how a given week happened to feel.

  4. E

    Elevate

Here general fitness becomes specific capability: HYROX stations, a golf swing that holds up over eighteen holes, a return to running, a return to the sport you had set aside.

Training is shaped by the exact demands of your goal, so the strength you have built transfers rather than sitting unused.

  5. N

    Nurture

Recovery, mobility, sleep and hormonal context are treated as part of the programme, not as afterthoughts. For clients in midlife this stage often determines the result.

The aim is a training load that is sustainable across travel, workload and the physiological changes of the decade you are in.

  6. D

    Direct

Coaching continues beyond the initial block. We review data, re-assess at set intervals and course-correct before small issues become setbacks.

Over time you also learn to read your own signals, which is what makes the work hold once the programme has been handed over.

Rationale

Why this framework matters.

Most programmes begin at the Condition stage, which is why so many people accumulate training years without accumulating capability. If the assessment is skipped and stability is assumed, load simply reinforces the pattern that caused the problem.

Working in sequence gives us something more useful than a plan: a diagnosis, a baseline and a decision rule for what to change next. It also makes progress arguable in the proper sense — we can point to the measure that moved.

The framework is the same for a chief executive with eleven years of back pain and for an age-group HYROX competitor. Only the emphasis changes.

Start at stage one

Every engagement begins with a movement assessment. Everything after that is written from what it finds.
